The results are in ...

On Monday afternoon,   I sat in a long tube listening to jazz over headphones while my knee went through being scanned a zillion times.    I picked up the test results on Tue. afternoon and had them interpreted for me by my friend Carmen who's a rehab med doc and my other friend Sharon,  a chiropractor.     Both concurred that the test indicated I have an ACL tear and there's another ligament behind the knee which is in poor repair, but not torn.    The good thing, however,  is that everything else around my knee is intact.

Yesterday,  I see an orthopaedic doc and he has better news !   He wants me to start bearing weight ,  continue using the immobilizer, and will see me back in 2 weeks to discontinue the immobilizer and begin intensive physical therapy.    Surgery will only be considered if my knee is unstable during physical therapy,  otherwise,   I will not be having surgery.     *does hoppy dance on good leg*

I call my friend Barb who is a physical therapist and works at the facility where I will likely get rehabbed.   She gives me exercises that I can begin now,  which the orthopaedic doc also said I should do too;   300 leg lifts total for the day  while I am on my back;  100 on my side;  100 on my belly.    I started them last night and I heard the "Rocky theme"  in the back of my head ...   corny,  I know,   but it motivated me nonetheless !    

I am very hopeful,  very optimistic.    Will I play softball next year with a knee brace ?    Probably.    Much to the chagrin of my other half.   

I walked on BOTH feet just in the bathroom this morning -  no crutches ma -    whee !
